What is the Equality Act 2010?

The Equality Act 2010 is one act to protect the rights of individuals and advance equality of opportunity for all people.

The Equality Act is a new act, including all the former discrimination acts. Also the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 is included.

Who is protected by the Equality Act 2010?

The act protects everyone who has a disability and it also protects people who are harassed because they are linked or associated with a disabled person.

What is direct disability discrimination?

When a disabled person receives worse treatment than someone without or disability we call it disability discrimination.

What is discrimination arising from disability?

This type of discrimination occurs, when a disabled person is treated worse because of something connected with the disability.

Direct discrimination and discrimination arising from disability are two different things. With the first one, a service provider really discriminates a disabled person directly for the disability.

The second one, a service provider has to do careful research to see if someone is disabled. It’s a question whether the disabled person was mistreated because of something linked to the disability.
